Mayor’s Visit

Last Friday night we had our November pack meeting.  Since this month’s theme followed the Core Value of Citizenship, we thought the boys would enjoy a visit from the mayor of our city.  We also felt it would be a nice follow-up from our November outing to the city building.

Our boys were very respectful and attentive as the mayor spoke to them about his background (he was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout) and what he does as mayor.  During the “Q&A” portion of the talk, some of the boys asked very good questions.

Despite having another function to attend after our meeting, he was also gracious enough to help us hand out the awards and advancement.  He even posed with the boys for a group picture.

We are fortunate to live in a relatively small city (population ~25,000) with a mayor who is accessible.  Some may not be so lucky.  However, if you have the opportunity to have a government leader to visit with your boys, it may be well worth the effort.

I think that’s a great idea! Now I’m going to see if I can do something similar in March or April. We have had dens do the flag ceremony at the city council meetings, and that was a big hit. I’d expect getting the mayor to help with advancement would be too.

    Nice idea, thanks!
